I've been playing guitar for nearly 20 years but have always been frustrated by my limitations. My only formal training was an intro guitar class in college and a few months worth of private lessons some time later. I taught myself to finger pick to an intermediate level but have never been very accomplished on lead playing and am not versatile at all. I recently stumbled across some info on the Learn & Master Guitar series on a couple of guitar websites and thought it sounded interesting. As I researched the course, I found it nearly unanimously praised and I eventually decided to bite the bullet and spend the $150 (it seems that the course is nearly always "on sale" on their website). I am so glad I did, just wish I'd had this course 20 years ago!My problem has always been simple ignorance - I had no idea where to begin. If you prefer to buy one curriculum of material that is well organized instead of a bookcase full of booklets that don't tie together very well, this is the course you have been looking for.This starts from zero and teaches you exactly what you need to know to really learn to play guitar. You will develop knowledge and skills in theory, music reading, technique, variety of styles, etc.The course is appropriate for beginner and intermediate level guitar players. This is basically the same product as listed elsewhere here on Amazon. I guess you could say this is the Expanded, Expanded version. It includes the same number of DVDs and CDs and books, but additionally includes the new teacher DVDs and Teacher's Guide. This is a newer 2010 release. It is published by Legacy Learning Systems, Inc, the same folks that publish the other item, but under agreement with the Hal Leonard Corporation. This item therefore, because of its differences can not be listed for sale under the other item's title via Amazon's policy. As other reviewers have said, this is NOT the expanded version with 20 session DVDs, despite the product picture showing that. I bought it hoping it would be, but will be returning it now. You need to buy the expanded edition to get the 20 DVDs, which apparently is much more useful since the other 10 DVDs contain detailed bonus workshops for each of the 20 sessions. Amazon needs to correct their picture for this listing to only show 10 DVDs instead of 20.

You can't go wrong with this tutorial. If you have no clue about guitar setup, you should definitely buy this! If you're curious about more in depth understanding of your guitar, buy this! If you want to fix broken guitars, this is not the one for you. This cat is a master at what he does. You'll definitely learn some tricks of the trade and be able to setup guitars for the most part. If you don't understand how to fix tuning problems with your guitar, mainly intonation, this is a fantastic film! This will get you started in the basics of truly setting up guitars.

Must Have for Beginning Guitar
I have been using other learn and master programs, specifically, guitar and I wish I had purchased this a year ago when I started. This program, if followed closely, will allow you to do basic maintenance and adjustments on your acoustic or electric guitar. If you're like me and are afraid that you will damage your precious guitar then this is a great start to learning how to do SOME of your own maintenance. Let me be clear that this is not a substitute for periodic maintenance by a professional to adjust saddle height (although that is covered in the dvds) or the nut (which the dvd suggests to always have looked at by a pro). If you like to change your strings 3-4 times a year or more, or you like to keep your guitar well maintained to get the best tones from it but you want to save yourself the time and money of dropping it off at the guitar shop then this is an easy choice. It covers setup and routine maintenance on both Electric and Acoustic type guitars. The instructions are clear and well illustrated and just a few setups that you perform to keep your sound in tip top order will more than save you the cost of the DVD set if you had to take your guitar to a music store and have their technician do the setup for you.
